Rookie Riders

Rookie Riders is a great way to get started with horseback riding, but also great for riders who want to work on their balance and strength
Riders work on the ground, barrel horse and on the horse focusing on their position, balance and strengthening.
It is a fun and exciting group program for children and teens.

What our rookie riders lessons look like?

Over the age of 5 years old
45 minute group lesson of 3-6 participants
Participants will be active throughout the entire lesson
Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothes and running shoes are best
Cost is $35 per lesson, in sessions of 6-7 weeks.

Assessment

Contact Windy Acres Stable once all paperwork is completed, potential riders will have an onsite assessment with their parents, caregivers etc to talk about goals, specifics and availability.

One time $30 assessment fee

2026 Program Schedule

Our year is divided into 5 sessions. Each session is 6-7 weeks in length and allows for horses to rest at least one week between sessions.

Rookie Riders programs are most like to run Winter 2026 and Late Fall 2026, unless there is enough interest other sessions to form a group.

Winter 2026

Winter session March 8 to April 25

Registration begins February 1

7 week session (includes March break, Good Friday and Easter Monday))

Spring 2026

May 3- week of June 20

Registration begins April 1

7 week session includes Victoria Day

Summer 2026

July 5 to August 22

Registration begins June 1

7 week session including August long weekend

Fall 2026

Week of September 6 - week of October 24

Registration begins August 1

7 week session except for no lessons on Thanksgiving Monday

Late Fall 2026

Week of November 1 - week of December 12

Registration begins October 1

6 week session

Program Policies

Payment

Payment is required before the first lesson of the session unless payment is being received by a funding source in which case Windy Acres must be informed and payment received by the end of the session.

Attendance Policy

There will be NO make up lessons

There will be NO reimbursement for cancelled lessons

However. if there is a day that your rider will be absent you will not be billed for that lesson if Windy Acres stable is notified at the time of registration for that session.

Inclement Weather

Lessons are rain or shine.

There will be no make up lesson or reimbursement for lessons not attended during inclement weather unless Windy Acres Stables cancels the lessons
