Sugar joined us in the fall as part of a bonded pair with Spice and began her formal training in January. She is currently part of our Recreational Riding Program while she continues her journey toward becoming a therapeutic riding horse. Sugar is having a blast with her training! She especially enjoys our colourful obstacle activities — hula hoops, balls, pylons, and rubber ducks — and is learning to confidently navigate the challenges that will eventually help her support our therapeutic riders. One of Sugar’s biggest goals for the coming year is to master standing quietly and confidently at the mounting ramp. For therapeutic riders who need assistance getting into the saddle, a horse that can patiently and reliably stand at the ramp is absolutely essential. Sugar also has a bit of a challenge of her own. She is sway-backed, so we are continually working to strengthen her core and back muscles. Developing that strength is important to help her safely and comfortably carry therapeutic riders.
